Basic Nursing Assistant Program
Basic Nursing Assistant Program prepares students to administer patient care as members of a nursing team in hospitals, nursing homes, home health agencies, and other extended-care facilities. A nurse assistant will help with the routine care and treatment of persons who are sick, disabled, or informed. Current research and trends show excellent job prospects for nurse assistants. Recent occupational projections rank nurse assistants as one of the leading occupations in the healthcare field. The employment growth is partly attributed to the long-term care needs of an aging population.
This course is designed to provide the student with didactic principles and clinical practice skills for providing personal ADLs and restorative assistance for persons throughout the life span. A special focus is on the geriatric person. The course content includes information related to The Health Care Environment, The Role of a Nursing Assistant, Work Ethics, Communication, Body Structure and Function, Patients, Residents and Persons, Safety, Infection Control, Protective Body Mechanics, The Person’s Environment, Personal Hygiene, Physical Observations, Mobility, Elimination, Surgery and Wound care, Sensory Problems, Physical Problems, Mental Problems, Emergency Care, Reproduction, The Dying Person and Death. The course content is directed by the scope of practice defined by the Illinois Department of Public Health.

Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN) Program
This course is designed to provide the student with didactic principles and clinical practice skills needed to provide nursing care to clients across the lifespan under the direction of a professional nurse and/or doctor. The courses offered in the program are Fundamentals of Nursing, Care of the Adult Client, Obstetrical Nursing, Pediatric Nursing, and Nursing for Mental Health Clients. Graduates of the program will be eligible to take the National Council Licensure Examination for Practical Nurses (NCLEX-PN). Licensure in Illinois allows the practical nurse to work in a variety of clinical settings, such as hospitals, long-term care facilities, mental health faculties, outpatient care facilities as well as various types of physician offices.
Prerequisite courses & other requirements for admission to program course: English 101, Math 110, Medical Terminology, Pharmacology, Certified Nursing Assistant.
Licensed practical nurses (LPNs) help physicians and registered nurses (RNs) care for patients.
They have the technical knowledge to perform routine nursing duties, but they may also make appointments, maintain patient records, and perform basic clerical duties.
Most licensed practical nurses work in hospitals, nursing homes, other healthcare institutions, and private homes. Some are employed in doctors’ offices, clinics, and public health agencies. Still others work in large businesses. They care for workers who have accidents or become ill on the job. Licensed practical nurses are also called licensed vocational nurses.

The course is designed to provide students with the fundamental concepts and principles of pharmacology, drug nomenclature, drug classifications, mechanisms of action, and the different treatment modalities of various diseases, alleviation of signs and symptoms caused by various diseases afflicting individuals of all ages with an emphasis on the elderly population requiring long term care.
